NavPak Android/Kindle Quick Start Notes

Setup
----------------------------------------------------
ZONE
Be sure that your computer time zone is correct relative to GMT.
To verify this, go to the panel: GMT Time and tap on the button: [Set to Clock].
This should show the correct GMT time and date in the panel.

To be independent of time zones, you could set the computer clock and time zone to GMT,
giving a zero offset to GMT. Then turn off automatic time and zone updates in your device.

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DELTA T VALUE
Be sure that the Delta T Value is correct for your year. There is a button in the Almanac panel
to set the Delta T Value.

This value is an international standard so it is readily available from many sources such as
astronomy references, USNO website, WikiPedia, etc...
This copy is hard wired to 68.8, which is suitable for 2017 and 2018.

The Delta T Value is a Sidereal Time conversion, which gradually degrades over time,
and it does not extrapolate well, hence the international standard.

By entering the current Delta T value, the NavPak Ephemeris should be accurate until 2150.
---------------------------------------------------------
ASSUMED POSITION
You can use the Almanac in NavPak without an Assumed Position (AP), but for everything else,
it is required. An estimate to the nearest whole degree is sufficient. The Ocean Maps in
NavPak should help in estimating your AP. The AP will show as a flag on the Globe View.
---------------------------------------------------------
MAGNETIC VARIATION
You can use the Almanac in NavPak without magnetic variation, but for everything else,
it is required. An estimate to the nearest whole degree is sufficient. There is a
magnetic variation map in NavPak which should help in estimating your variation.
---------------------------------------------------------
DESTINATION POSITION
If you are going more than a few hundred miles, then it is helpful to set and store your destination (DEST).
The DEST is set in the Great Circle panel. The Ocean Maps in NavPak should help in estimating your DEST.
The DEST will show as a flag on the Globe View.

All the items above are saved in the initialization file, so you only need to enter them once.
